The Relief

Encaustic wax and ink on paper

A collection of four pieces in simple neutral shades.

I developed the idea of taking an old map, going on the journey, finding the destination and the relief of arrival.

The pieces are created from layers of hot wax swirled and layered together, then blended with heat. Finally ink is flooded across the surface pouring into the crevices and creases of the textures created by the wax, defining the depths.
