At the Edge of the Geyser
Encaustic wax on paper
I produced this work after a visit to Iceland in January 2016.
As the geysers steam, some gently - others with huge force, they create small worlds at the edge of the ice. The hot sulphurous water meets the ice creating colours and structures that can only be imagined.
This piece is produced with layer after layer of hot wax melted across the surface with an iron, then blown with hot air to manipulate the surface to give a three dimensional texture.
